E-cigarette headlines from across the country. What is the Media saying now?

A lot can change in two months!

Hey guys! Dawn here and if you have been reading this blog then you know that the last few months have been pretty big for the electronic cigarette. We as an industry have gone from being a product that had very little to no support from the government and media to a product that is starting to garner the support and praise from all sorts of places.

In fact, up until recently (and unfortunately still, in some cases) it was not uncommon to see government agencies spreading false information regarding e-cigarette in a misguided attempt to prevent smokers from using these devices. Then a couple months ago, the FDA came out with a press release that changed the story almost overnight. In their announcement, the FDA not only did an about-face on their opinion of e-cigarettes, saying that yes, in fact, e-cigarettes CAN help smokers switch away from burning tobacco and ARE less harmful than burning tobacco cigarettes. (Keep in mind they DID NOT say these devices are a harmless product, just less harm than burning tobacco.)

Then a couple months ago, the FDA came out with a press release that changed the story almost overnight. In their announcement, the FDA not only did an about-face on their opinion of e-cigarettes, saying that yes, in fact, e-cigarettes CAN help smokers switch away from burning tobacco and ARE less harmful than burning tobacco cigarettes, they also postponed a ton of the industry killing regulation deadlines for four years. Keep in mind they DID NOT say these devices are a harmless product, just less harm than burning tobacco so they still say non-smokers should not start, even on an e-cigarette. (We agree!)  (Click here to read our blog about this great news)

But since that is old news (2 months is old news lol) why are we talking about it again today? Well it is pretty darn awesome so I would want to talk about it more anyway, but the actual reason is that today we are going to take another look at how this announcement has affected the way that media and other sources are reporting on the electronic cigarette and vaping industries. Keep in mind that before this announcement most media had no problem reporting the misinformation regarding e-cigarette. The headlines often said something like  “E-cigarettes more harmful to the lungs than regular cigarettes” and “E-cigarettes, today’s gateway drug”.

Not so anymore! That’s right, since the announcement and the recent Georgetown University paper that we reported on last week (Click here), it is way more common to see headlines with a positive outlook on the industry and the very real possibility that millions of smokers may now have real options when it comes to nicotine delivery and how those delivery devices affect their health. Here are a few examples of headlines that can be found today just by googling the words electronic cigarette and hitting the news tab:

Seems like I listed a ton of headlines, but the thing is I could keep going for a lot longer! So if you are looking for a way to help this industry and you want to help spread the word about how many smokers lives could be changed if they just updated their nicotine delivery device to a cleaner product, then share some of these headlines to your Facebook and other social media outlets. Let the world know that according to the science, for smokers switching may be the way to go if quitting is not an option. 🙂
