Alright onto today’s topic. The electronic cigarette industry is a very young industry in the nicotine delivery world. With it’s invention as many questions have arisen as have been answered. Currently, studies are being performed, surveys are being gathered and the information is being sifted through. All of this is really to answer one burning question.
The title pretty much sums up the burning question of late. Does a tobacco-free world need to be nicotine free?
We all know that burning tobacco is a bad thing. The average yearly death toll in America alone is around 500,000 people. Let’s really think about that number for a moment.
Detroit population: 713,777……… So it would take only 1.5 years to extinct the entire city at current death rates.
Flint, Ann Arbor, Lansing and Grand Rapids combined population: 518,000…..In just over a year the entire population of not just 1 of Michigan’s largest cities but 4 of them combined. Every man women and child worth of human lives destroyed.
It’s not hard to see why burning tobacco is called the worst plague on Earth. It’s because it is. That is not just my opinion either. These death rates are facts. The death toll from burning tobacco has nothing to do with opinion and everything to do with just cold, hard, deadly facts. And remember we are only talking about the US death toll here. In fact, according to the American Cancer Society, the death toll per year worldwide is much closer to 6 million people.
Let’s put that into perspective.
Michigan population: 9.9 Million…… So in less than 2 years, the entirety of Michigan’s population worth of human lives is wiped out. And sadly, that is a recurring death toll!
(All population stats sited to: http://www.geonames.org/US/MI/largest-cities-in-michigan.html)
Something to keep in mind when looking at these numbers is that all the deaths are not from actual smokers. What I mean by that is of the 500K deaths here in the US around 42,000 of the deaths are due to second-hand smoke, non-smokers, but dying like a smoker anyway.
So what about nicotine?
Remember, the question is do nicotine and burning tobacco both have to stay, in order to keep either of them. Can one exist without the other and would it be better for the world as a whole? Well, we have the facts on burning tobacco, let’s check out the facts on nicotine.
So in my search for a death toll related to nicotine, I found it hard to get a number. The one number I could find put the death toll at about 40 a year worldwide. Even I find that hard to believe, so let’s say that 200% of nicotine deaths are not reported or are just plain misdiagnosed. That would raise the yearly total to 800 people/worldwide.
Let’s put that into perspective: The Village of Hesperia here in Michigan has 954 people living in it. Nicotine can not even extinct a village let alone a town or a city. Now every death matters.
It can be hard to really put the 800 number into perspective though so I did a little research to figure out how many people die from Soda pop a year. What I found is around 25K people die from sugar every year. That’s right
25,000 deaths/ Sugar
Er……..I do not know how to qualify this. So I will just move on.
Now that we have the facts about nicotine and burning tobacco, let’s see what an expert has to say.
Who: Mitchel Zeller: Former director of the FDA’s center for tobacco production.
The Quote: “It’s not the nicotine that kills half of all long-term smokers, it’s the delivery mechanism”
That means even the experts know that it’s all about the burning tobacco when it comes to the death rate associated with cigarettes. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a clean delivery method for nicotine? Let’s break it down.
Tobacco Deaths = 500K /US 6 Mill/world per year
Sugar deaths = 25K / year
Nicotine deaths = 40-800/ year
(Side note….Chewing tobacco deaths = 250k / year)
And the experts think a new delivery method would be beneficial.
So there you have it, all the facts as they stand. No opinion, no bluster, just facts. They seem pretty telling to me. The time has come to update our nicotine delivery devices. The good news? We can! Unlike the in the past, when if you wanted nicotine, you had to get it with either gross looking chew or burning tobacco. That is no longer the case, thanks to A Clean Cigarette brand electronic cigarettes now not only can you get the nicotine without the burning tobacco, you can expect it to taste and feel very close to what you are already used to. Yes, other delivery options have been around for a while. Things like gum or patches. But let’s be honest, we are smokers and we want to feel like we are smoking; we just don’t want to actually smoke. Now you can. Just check out acleancigarette.com for more information on updated delivery methods that are designed to be cig-a-like in all ways. Well, all ways except the burning, stinking and tar ways. Just think about it; there are nearly 600 fewer ingredients in an electronic cigarette than there are in a burning tobacco cigarette.
So it’s time for an answer: NO! A world without burning tobacco does NOT have to be a world without nicotine.
I hope you have found this information useful. I know that in doing this research I learned a lot. If you have any questions or would like any further information please feel free to drop me a line at email@example.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
