Hello again, Dawn here to keep you up to date and informed on everything electronic cigarette related. I try my best each week to come up with insightful, informative and entertaining blogs. Sometimes I find things that are really interesting, sometimes not so much lol. I hope today’s blog hits the nail on the head for you.
While scanning the internet I found some great information that the CDC recently put out. For those of you who do not know, CDC stands for Center for Disease Control and they are a major governmental health group here in the US that reports on all things disease related. For instance, burning tobacco kills nearly a half a million people a year through various diseases. So logically the CDC has a real interest in the current adult smoking rate.
The CDC has not been particularly supportive of the electronic cigarette industry as a whole. I am not going to say they ever will be, but even they have to admit, things are looking great in the battle against big tobacco.
According to the CDC the number of adult smokers in the US has recently been dropping dramatically. In fact, it has dropped from 20.9% in 2005 to 16.8 % in 2014 representing a 19.8% decrease. The good news is across the board with decreases in the 45 to 64 years old age group of 23.2% and decreases in the 25 to 44 years old group of 14.4%.
Those numbers are amazing and even the CDC hints at the fact that electronic cigarettes are having an impact on this amazing decline in the world’s deadliest habit. Although they still say that more research is needed. We hear that all of the time from the government even with hundreds of existing studies and a ton of health professional support to Check out what they have to say: “The extent to which emerging tobacco products, such as e-cigarettes, might have contributed to the observed decline in cigarette smoking in recent years is uncertain. E-cigarette use was first assessed in NHIS in 2014, so it is not possible to assess long term patterns of e-cigarette use relative to cigarette use with this dataset;”
You can find the whole public release HERE. It’s chalked full of useful information.
