Welcome! It’s your ever ready A Clean Cigarette blogger Dawn here, typing away at the keyboard in an effort to bring you information on all things Electronic Cigarette.
A Clean Cigarette is primarily a Michigan-based company, at least for now. Like I have mentioned in past posts, we started as a small kiosk in the Bay City Mall in Bay City, Michigan and now have 19 brick and mortar locations. While we are growing fairly quickly, we intend to remain local, except for our on-line store. That is important because sometimes we forget that not everyone has access to our in-store teams at A Clean Cigarette. That means that they don’t have the chance to receive all the information our stores give. No information means no up to date understanding of what is really going on in this industry.
Not that long ago, as some of you may know, I visited New York state. While I was in New York I discovered just how un-informed some places still are. Now I am not saying that everyone in Michigan is informed, I am just saying that after 6+ years we are really starting to see a much larger group of informed consumers here in our areas.
The thing is I search the web all of the time and one of the things that has caught my attention lately seems to be all over the internet. Check out this headline:
The fact is, headlines like this should not surprise us. With states like California spending millions on mass propaganda against electronic cigarettes and many health organizations being slow to look at, much less promote, the most recent science available in regards to electronic cigarettes, of course people will be confused.
Now I am not saying electronic cigarettes are “good” for you. Straight out, nothing you inhale besides clean air is good for you, but come on…more harmful that tobacco?!?! (which is what this article goes on to say.) That is not even logical. 4-6 ingredient compared to 600 ingredients plus tar….. it’s basic math here.
We have talked in the past about the unfortunate propaganda that is being spread over the Internet, TV, and other media sources. If you are interested in reading the blog I posted on that just CLICK HERE or HERE.
But back to this headline. According to the article “Based on an October phone poll of 1,014 U.S. adults, the Stat-Harvard survey showed 65% of respondents believe electronic cigarettes are harmful. Even more troublesome, many survey respondents expressed uncertainty about electronic cigarette’s potential risk compared to combustibles: Just 44% said e-cigs were less harmful than tobacco cigarettes, and 32% listed e-cigs as equally harmful.” Wow, that was even hard to quote it’s such a sad state of affairs. It does not end there either, the article then goes on to state; “Proponents of vaping—and even a recent CDC report–suggest these products reduce harm and help current smokers quit. The survey, however, found that just 38% of those polled believe electronic cigarettes can aid in cessation vs. 47% who said e-cigs are not an effective cessation tool.” How unfortunate! Yet not surprising based on the current unethical and ridiculous propaganda attacks on this industry.
Fortunately, not too long ago England Public Health (EPH) released a huge bombshell with its report regarding electronic cigarettes. You may have heard that in that report EPH states “Electronic cigarettes are around 95% less harmful than burning tobacco.” That news in not all that shocking to us! Seems like common sense that something with more than 4000 less chemicals and nearly 600 less ingredients could be less harmful to the body. (Not to mention the fact that electronic cigarettes are not lit on fire and do not produce tar.) That was not ALL that report stated though.
A couple of much less talked about, but just as important messages, that PHE sent out in that report are really valuable information that based on the above-mentioned headline really need to be talked about more. Here is what they have to say that “Recent studies support the Cochrane Review findings that EC can help people to quit smoking and reduce their cigarette consumption. There is also evidence that EC can encourage quitting or cigarette consumption reduction even among those not intending to quit or rejecting other support. More research is needed in this area.” So why then, are so many American consumers misguided about the possible benefits of electronic cigarettes? Why are States and even some health organizations working so hard to misinform the public?
Well, there are many theories ranging from “They just want to err on the side of safety.” to “They make too much money off of big tobacco and big pharmacy to risk an actual effective tool hitting the market.” All we can say is we have no comment on the why. We just want to offer legitimate and well-researched information to consumers and let them make up their own minds. At A Clean Cigarette we offer lab analysis on our product. We have also paid for and have available MSDS’s on our devices and we search the Internet to keep up to date on everything regarding the electronic cigarette industry.
