Today we are going to have a talk about Propylene Glycol. I cannot tell you how often I am asked about it, and how often people are truly misinformed about it. That’s a real issue because 95% of A Clean Cigarette is Propylene Glycol. So here we go.
Where can Propylene Glycol be found other then E-Cigs?
First things first, according to the 1st line of the 14th page of this EPA document “Propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol were first registered in 1950 and 1959, respectively, by the FDA for use in hospitals as air disinfectants.” It is used in Minnesota in an effort to keep the indoor air quality at acceptable levels for people to work and thrive in. So yes, it cleans the air for people to breathe. Okay, so it’s used to deliver breathing treatments and other medications, but what is propylene glycol exactly? What do the experts have to say about its safe use in the products listed above? Is it good for me?
Well according to the PDF from CDC we have linked here or just click the picture to the left, it is considered G.R.A.S. (generally recognized as safe.) What does that really mean though? Well here is a list of other ingredients that are considered G.R.A.S.
A small part of the list:
Salts from dried mineral water
Phosphatidylserine derived from sunflower
Seed from Phalaris canariensis L. (canary grass)
Concentrated milk proteins
Dried citrus pulp
Cow’s milk-derived lactoferrin
Olive pulp extract
There are a bunch more on the list, and we do mean a bunch, but we think you get the point. Is propylene glycol safe to inhale? Nothing but air is truly SAFE to inhale into your lungs. That being said, remember we are not talking about selling E-cigs to people that only inhale clean air. We are talking about replacing TAR with propylene glycol (PG). We KNOW how bad tar is, and the FDA thinks PG is something that belongs on the G.R.A.S list. It seems like a logical choice there.
I hope that helps clear up some misunderstandings on PG. If you have any questions please email me at Info.email@example.com.
